Pitcalzean House proved to be an ideal holiday venue for a week with our family of 14 grandchildren & 4 sets of parents to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The house itself was very warm and comfortable with a very good ratio of bathrooms to bedrooms. The spacious kitchen with continually fired Aga was well stocked with everything that was necessary to cater for our group of 24 and the dining room comfortably seated us all. The 3 lounges proved ideal – the main one with log fire for adults, the smaller TV one for the children and the upstairs “Magnus” lounge for quietness with it’s lovely view along the Cromarty Firth to Ben Wyvis.  There was a large library and plenty of board games, jigsaws etc. besides the snooker and table tennis tables. The owner has put together a fascinating history of the house and the area.
The daffodil & primrose covered grounds were lovely for relaxing in the sun (we were blessed with warm weather at Easter) and the large front lawn  was great for outdoor games.

The 20 miles of costal footpaths with their extensive views to north and south around the strip of land which ends at the Tarbet Ness lighthouse made for splendid walking. The sandy beaches at Shandwick and Portmahomack were equally fine for swimming, although rather cold in April! Cycling in the area was enjoyable and there are forestry cycle trails in the woods above Tain and Alness.  We found so much to do locally that apart from climbing Ben Wyvis we never ventured more than 15 miles from the house.
Mrs. Filler the owner of the house was very friendly and   helpful and we would thoroughly recommend Pitcalzean  to anyone looking for a great house for a large group in a lovely location.
